Initialisation for front door windows - BMW E87, 1 Series
The initialisation of the electric windows on the BMW E87 1 Series resets the anti trapping protection function and the one touch function. Rear electric windows on the E87 do not require initialisation as they do not have one touch or anti trapping functions.
Its important to note that there is no anti trapping protection during the initialising process of the front windows. Care must be taken to insure that no objects are obstructing the path of the window. For example be sure the window track/guide is free from broken glass, tools etc.
Initialisation of a window is performed on the switch of the relevant door being worked on. The process for a correct initialisation is as follows.
- Terminal "R" is activated
- Doors and windows should be closed
- Insure there is sufficient power in the battery to operate the window several times
An initialisation must be performed when
- The motor malfunctions, for example the one touch function fails to operate
- After the power window drive has been replaced
- After work has been carried out on the mechanism
- After disconnecting the battery or the power to the door
- After a window replacement
- After adjustments on the soft top roof (if fitted)
- After window adjustments
Erasing the windows initialisation
- Open the door window glass fully
- Operate the windows switch in the "fully open position" (the second switch position) and hold down (open) for approximately 20 to 25 seconds
This erases the windows initialisation of the motor and disables the anti trapping and one touch function. See if you have been successful in doing this by checking the one touch function. If the one touch function is still operational repeat the erasing process.
Re initialisation of window
- Close the window (shut)
- After the window reaches the top (closed) position let go of the switch and immediately hold it again in the close position (up) for 1 to 2 seconds. Its important whilst doing this you hold the switch in the second position (as far as goes). This should complete the re initialisation process, and if done correctly your window should now have a one touch function and anti trapping function again.
