Windscreen News & Technical Information

Service 8 Auto Glass is providing technical help bulletins in an attempt to improve the quality of windscreen installations performed by auto glass technicians.

In Australia and many other country's no licence or training is required to perform windscreen installations and as a result many auto glass replacements are incorrectly installed. Incorrectly installed windscreens can damage vehicles, but more importantly an incorrectly installed windscreen can put lives at risk.

The windscreen in the modern vehicle is a structural component. In a collision or rollover the windscreen holds the roof up and prevents it from crushing you. Passenger Airbags use the windscreen to inflate in the correct position, an incorrectly installed windscreen could be ejected by an airbag a rendering a life saving device useless. It's these reasons why Service 8 Auto Glass has agreed to share free technical help to assist technicians to improve their skills.

Technical bulletins on the Service 8 Web Site are not intended for the DIY enthusiast. Windscreen Bulletins assume that the reader already has significant knowledge and experience within the auto glass industry, bulletins mostly highlight the not so obvious steps of an installation rather than give step by step procedures.

Technical bulletins are based on what Service 8 has learnt from working with genuine manufacturers for many years. Some senior technicians at Service 8 have over 20 years experience working with auto glass and glass processing. This does not mean we claim to know it all, quite the opposite. We welcome and encourage any other windscreen technicians to email us any quick tips and technical help to add to our database. Bulletins that are selected and published will display the providers name and country of origin. This will help technicians understand different vehicles and models that are not so common in their own country of residence.

Technicians please note, Service 8 is not responsible for any problems that may arise from technicians using these bulletins although every effort is taken to insure the information is current and worthy.
