Windscreen FAQ
How much will my windscreen cost?
Small side windscreen prices can start from $99.00. This includes the Service 8® complimentary mobile service.
Service 8® always assures you the best quality, best warranty and best prices. We also beat competitors prices providing they use the same quality products and services.
A repairer quoted me over $400. I was informed the job quality and glass is better, is it?
Sales people on commission can be quite persuasive. These people are trained to read from a script, however if its technical advice you require chances are you will be put on hold for 5 minutes whilst they check.
Sales people are not windscreen experts and do not know the technical differences in windscreen quality and installations.
We are not aware any other windscreen repairer in the industry who uses superior products to Service 8®. We only use the highest quality products available in Australia.
It is your choice if you want to pay more.
I just had a long phone call and was asked lots of questions for a quote. Is this necessary? what information do you require?
No, all those questions are not necessary. These questions are designed to extract personal information from you in order to maximize the price you are charged. If you live on a affluent post code you will be charge accordingly by these companies.
Service 8® respects your privacy and we do not use aggressive sales tactics to extract information from you. All we require is your approximate location, vehicle make, model, year, damaged window and sometimes the vehicles VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number).
Will my windscreen stone chip spread once repaired? What's the Warranty?
Once the windscreen stone chip or crack is repaired it is rare for it to spread.
However, should the damage get bigger and you want to replace your windscreen Service 8® will give you the cost of the repair off a replacement windscreen you purchase through us.
Please be aware that there is also a risk of the damage spreading during the repair process, however again this is very rare.

Can I claim my windscreen or auto glass replacement on my car insurance policy?
Yes, many insurance company's allow one windscreen claim per year. You may have to pay an excess (the first part of a claim).
Call us, we can help with your windscreen claim. We can also direct bill your insurance company.
What's all this talk of quality? Windshield replacements are all the same, right?
No. The glass is of a similar quality from supplier to supplier. However, the real quality is the installation procedure and adhesives used. Unqualified/inexperienced technicians that are not equipped for the job can and often do cause major damage to your vehicle without you knowing. This can cost thousands down the track in subsequent rust repairs and leaks.
What is the windscreen moulding/rubber seal that I have been quoted on, the existing one looks fine to me?
The windscreen mould/trim is a cosmetic finish that surrounds the outer edge of the windscreen. Although the mould on your vehicle may look in good condition, when it is removed it can easily be stretched or damaged. This is typical and can be difficult to avoid. On some models the existing mould can be salvaged and reused, however it is always recommended that it is replaced with your new windscreen.
The good news is Service 8® has a range of generic windscreen moulds and trims that will suit most vehicles, prices are from $15. This can be a considerable saving on a genuine mould that can cost hundreds from the dealer.
Important! Please note that generic moulds may have a different profile/appearance to the original. However moulds serve only for cosmetic purposes. Please advise our staff if you would prefer an original/genuine mould to restore your vehicle to its to its original condition. Our staff will advise you if your vehicle requires a genuine mould if a generic version is not available.
What about my Mirror and Electronic E toll Tag?
No problem, Service 8® reattaches all windscreen mounted mirrors/E toll Tags and mobile phone antennas free of charge.
Will I require a new rego label as the old one is stuck to the broken windscreen?
Generally no, most of the time (approx 95%) the old label can be transferred to the new windscreen. This can't be guaranteed, but we take the greatest of care.
