Windscreen Frequently Asked Questions
How much will my windscreen replacement cost?
Windscreens prices start from $179.00, however at Service 8 Auto Glass you are always assured the best quality, best warranty and best prices. Customers that called a well known corporate brand were quoted two or even three times the amount of a Service 8 windscreen quote. We also beat competitors prices providing they have similar quality products and services.
I got a quote from corporate brand repairer for over $400, I was informed the job quality and glass is better?
Sales people on commission can be quite persuasive. These people are trained to read from a script, however if its technical advice you require chances are you will be put on hold for 5 minutes whilst they check. Sales people are not windscreen experts and do not know the technical differences in windscreen quality.
Service 8 has the best quality windscreens replacements in the industry and we welcome other repairers to put us to the test.
I just had a 15 minute phone call with a national brand that asked me lots of questions just for a quote. Is this necessary? what information do you require?
No, all those questions are not necessary. These questions are designed to extract personal information from you in order to charge you the highest price. If you hang up after the quote they will have the sales team call you back with the hard sell tactics. Marketing call backs are an invasion of you privacy and illegal in Australia.
Service 8 respects your privacy and we will not use aggressive sales tactics to extract information from you. All we require is your area, vehicle make, model, year, damaged window and sometimes the vehicles VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number). We only ask for your personal details if your actually make an appointment.
Can I claim my windscreen or auto glass replacement on my car insurance policy?
Yes, many insurance company's allow one free windscreen claim per year. You may have to pay an excess (the first part of a claim) so its best to check with your insurer first. If you have an excess its probably not worth making a claim.
What's all this talk of quality? Windscreens are all the same, right?
No. The generic branded glass that most customers request are of a similar quality from shop to shop. The real quality is the installation procedure and adhesives. Unqualified/inexperienced technicians that are not equipped for the job can cause major damage to your vehicle without you knowing, this can cost hundreds down the track in subsequent rust repairs and leaks.
What is the windscreen molding/rubber seal that I have been quoted on, the existing one looks fine to me?
The windscreen mould/trim is a cosmetic finnish that surrounds the outer edge of the windscreen. Although the mould on your vehicle may look in good condition, when it is removed it can easily be stretched or damaged. This is typical and can be difficult to avoid. On some models the existing mould can be salvaged and reused, however it is always recommended that it is replaced with your new windscreen.
The good news is Service 8 Auto Glass has a range of generic windscreen moulds and trims that will suit most vehicles, prices are from $30. This can be a considerable saving on a genuine mould that can cost hundreds for the genuine dealer.
Important! Please note that generic moulds may have a different profile/appearance to the original, however moulds serve only for cosmetic purposes. Please advice our staff if you would prefer an original mould to restore your vehicle to its to its original condition. Our staff will advise you if your vehicle requires a genuine mould if a generic version is not available.
What about my Mirror and Electronic Etoll Tag?
No problem, Service 8 reattaches all windscreen mounted mirrors/Etoll Tags and mobile phone antennas free of charge.
Will I require a new rego label as the old one is stuck to the broken windscreen?
Generally no, most of the time (approx 90%) the old label can be transferred to the new windscreen. This can't be guaranteed, but we take the greatest of care.
